Persoalan

"Religion -religion of any kind- in the hands of power can be the worst kind of tyranny"

Agama, jenis apa sekalipun, apabila di dalam tangan yang berkuasa mampu menjadi sangat kejam. Macam itu lah lebih kurang maksudnya dalam bahasa Melayu.

Apa pendapat kamu? Setuju atau tidak?

To tell you the truth, I hate blogging about religion (although sometimes I can't help it).I hate reading blogs about religion and atheism theories from adolescents and men going through mid-life crisis who both perasan to be enlightened souls.

The people who change their fundamental beliefs after reading those are sheeps anyway.Orang yang malas nak cari their own set of beliefs and tumpang idea orang lain.Malas dan bodoh.Do your own soul searching la idiots.

So yeah,I'm really not interested in discussions related to religion.

Magenta, being her usual acerbic self :)

I agree with your opinion about people who change their fundamental beliefs easily being sheeps.

You shouldn't forget the other side of the coin though, following blindly too is sheep-ish.

This post however is never about changing beliefs or following blindly.

Rather, it is about how religion is implemented in a coercive manner, imposed upon those who are unwilling.

I'm not blaming religion here. Religion by itself is pretty much harmless, beneficial in some cases actually, but in the wrong hands, it may become dangerous and tyrannical.

And I want to know what people have to say about this.

Haha.I did a post on this already on my blog. It's called Andainya Para Remaja Melayu diberi Kebebasan untuk Memilih Agama. That's my stance on this topic.

ah terlupa tgk video....kalau dah masuk islam tapi malas nak beramal aku bleh paham....tapi aneh melihat orang dari islam masuk selain dari agama wahyu...sebab dah jelas dan nyata

scale 2=mereka yang obsest dengan religion
scale 1=mereka yang dikatakan on the right track
scale 0=mereka yang beramal tapi dalam masa yang sama buat maksiat
scale -1=hanyut macam dalam video

kalau yang hanyut tu family aku....aku x paksa...aku akan debate sampai clear...maybe itu niat tangan yang berkuasa

"i opted setuju after mamat "hentikan rakaman" tu keluar"

Exactly! That's the magic moment.

However and from whichever perspective this case is viewed, the fact remains that a family has been torn apart. Husband, wife and child separated.

Wah, siap scale lagi. Tapi best, skala membuatkan sesuatu perkara lebih mudah diukur. Nice!

we are fucked up and in danger of becoming failed states because the government love to meddle with religion too much.

Setuju. "Religion is like a knife, in the hands of a robber, it can be deadly but in the hands of a surgeon, it can save lives". I remember this quote from a tv show a while back. Which I believe is true, and in the same vein as Jefferson's.

But is the issue at hand really about manipulating the religion for the benefit of some (I fail to see which party is benefiting from this misery and if there is any, how?), or really about (mis)interpretation of the religious laws?

I am no expert on religious issues but if I'm not mistaken, there are no explicit orders in the Qur'an that somebody who is considered an apostate should be killed or be ill treated, as is the case of the lady in the video. That's what a lot of the ulama here in Britain are saying as well. I don't know the extent of this belief but I believe that Islam in its essence is about peace. Islam doesn't promote disarray in a family by separating mother from child. No religion does.

So is there any validity in what the ulamas in Britain are saying just because they're ulamas in a non-Muslim country? Based on experience and observation, Britain is a lot more Islamic than Malaysia is.

So I pose the question here again (for the nth time and already posed by countless others), are the Islamic laws implemented in Malaysia (and the rest of the world for that matter) really Islamic, based on the Qur'an and hadith, or are they mostly based on cultural laws?

It is really sad to see this happen as it is literally a punishment for this family. A soul is to be saved, not punished as I believe punishment ultimately belongs to God and that's that.

I too occasionally feel that, in your own words, "we are fucked up and in danger of becoming failed states"

But I hope it won't get to that.

And yes, me and magenta, we don't always agree on everything. *check the 'about this blog' section ;)
